VESTONE

Development of the grounds of private home in the Bel Air foothills to include total renovation of existing poolhouse/guest house, new garage, Japanese-inspired Onsen hillside spa, and hardscape to create a cohesive and expansive outdoor living space that feels connected and flows between the new structures of the estate complex.

With the buildings nestled in the hillside of Stone Canyon, the design takes complete advantage of the steep slopes to create unique spaces with inspired ideas in a modern aesthetic.  White stucco walls, exterior travertine tiles, and mix of woods such as ulin (an Asian hardwood), are punctuated by the greens of local flora and fauna.

Estate Compound Development in Bel Air Including Pool House, Garage, and Grounds

Steeped Within the Earth

Our clients property in Bel Air is like many of the area’s homes.  The steep hillsides create a beautiful vista, but can be a challenge for how to develop the land to suite your needs and lifestyle.  By integrating the natural contours of the land into our design plan, we are creatively building the numerous spaces our clients desire. The renovated pool house is a full walkout to the pool, but on the backside is completely recessed into the hill.  This allows for a new lounge on top of the pool house to be at ground level.  The dining space and lounge will have direct access to the Japanese-inspired Onsen spa on the hillside.  Created by using large stone boulders and the slope of the hill, the spa pool is the perfect spot to relax while in complete harmony with your surroundings.

The new garage will be just beside the pool house with a patio and walkway connecting the spaces and providing access to the main house.  A turtle pond with a wooden bridge is nestled between the new garage and the existing home.  The turtle pond has been integrated into the subterranean gym in the basement level of the new garage.  By using glass wall enclosures to create the pond, the glass wall will be the sidewall of the hallway in the gym.  Fully enclosed, natural light filters through the water into the space.  As the light and the weather change, so too will the mood of the gym space.  Above the new garage is a rooftop terrace with garden.
