Custom residential home, nearing the end of the construction phase, located in Los Angeles. Contemporary modern home, two-story with sleek styling using a mix of materials. Juxtaposing the warmth of the wood-clad ceilings of the porches with the cool undertones of white stucco and white anondized aluminm railings and framed windows.
We maximized the home’s footprint to make the most of the small in-town lot and to create the specific spaces needed for this home to two artists. The home is a linear balance with two distinct volumes. One in the front and one in the back separated by a central stairway.
Located in the heart of busy Pacific Palisades on a smaller 40′ wide by 130′ deep lot, this California Modern home is nearing completion. The home was designed with open and inviting spaces that will nurture creativity for our clients, both of whom are artists. There’s privacy with a gated side entry and serenity in the lush private backyard to enjoy peace and solitude. A entry gate on the side of the home opens to a covered area where you’ll find the ‘front door,’ which is the main entry to the home. Step inside and the craftsmanship will be on full display in the continual blending of natural and man-made materials.
The home is live, work, play. The need for separate studio spaces informed the linear arrangement of the home into two distinct volumes (front and back) that are separated by a central stairway at the ‘front’ door. In the rear are the main living spaces, as well as a visual artist’s in-home studio. This studio was designed for abundant natural light and with direct connection to the outdoors. Both are important inspirations for the cartoon-drawing creative process. A music composer’s studio is located in the front volume of the house over the garage. A second story covered porch on the front gives dimension to the structure, while also being a terrific vantage point for the mountain views. Clerestory windows will bring light into the space, while providing privacy from the street. The studio has state-of-the-art acoustics to contain any sound leakage and integrated technology for the clearest sound production as the scores for film and TV are written and produced here. It was also key to keep out the exterior noise of nearby Sunset Boulevatd.
Just down the street, the Eames house offered design inspiration for our clients in both the separation of work spaces and the creation of the soft white palette of a neutral facade.

Let’s face it, garage doors serve a utilitarian function. But for many architects and homeowners, the garage door is one of the least glamorous aspects of a home—-and for good reason. Most garage doors are simply ugly and uninspired. More often than not, they can detract from the overall design of the home.
